HOW TO MEASURE

Measure the opening—not the old door.

These five measurements start the quote. Sask Door verifies track, spring, operator and framing requirements before anything is ordered.

Residential sectional doors

For a typical residential replacement, the ordered door normally matches the finished opening width and height. Standard track often needs roughly 12–15 inches of headroom and suitable side/back room, but the selected manufacturer hardware always controls.

A

Finished opening width

Measure between the finished left and right jambs at the top, middle and bottom. Record the smallest clear width.

B

Finished opening height

Measure from finished floor to the finished header at the left, centre and right. Record the smallest clear height.

C

Left & right side room

Measure clear wall beside both sides. Note switches, conduit, shelves, pipes and framing that could interfere with vertical track.

D

Headroom

Measure from the top of the finished opening to the lowest overhead obstruction. Include beams, lights, ducts, ceiling slope and the proposed operator.

E

Backroom

Measure straight back from the plane of the opening. Note trusses, storage, stairs and anything that affects horizontal track or the operator.

Photos that prevent a second trip

COMMERCIAL MEASURING

Commercial doors need an operating profile too.

Opening & structure

Finished width and height, mounting surface, jamb material, header construction and exterior/interior conditions.

Clearances & lift

Both side rooms, headroom, backroom, roof slope, high-lift/vertical-lift need and every obstruction.

Duty & controls

Daily cycles, peak cycles per hour, traffic type, desired speed, voltage, phase, controls and monitored safety devices.

Environment

Heated or unheated space, wind exposure, moisture, washdown, chemicals, security and required glazing.

Do not order from a general measurement alone.

Track type, door weight, spring system, operator, building structure and current manufacturer instructions can change required clearances. Sask Door confirms the final opening before release.
